Copernicus Airport Wroclaw

Wroclaw’s airport named after Copernicus – the world-famous astronomer – is situated about 12 km southeast of the city centre. It is really a small airport as it has only one runway, one domestic and one international airport terminal but the good thing is a tourist will not get lost here. Wroclaw Copernicus Airport offers both regular flights operated by such carriers as LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa and low-budget flights operated by such carriers as Ryanair or Wizzair, etc.

Wroclaw has direct connections with the following cities: Frankfurt upon Main (Germany), Munich (Germany), Copenhagen (Denmark), London Stansted (UK), London Gatwick (UK), Dublin (Ireland), Nottingham East Midlands (UK), Dortmund (Germany), Shannon (Ireland), Glasgow (UK), Frankfurt Hahn (Germany) [starting from October 25, 2006], Liverpool (UK), Stockholm (Sweden), Cork (Ireland) [starting from October 31, 2006],Rome (Italy) [starting from October 29, 2006] and Milan(Italy).

Moreover, lots and lots of foreign and domestic travel agencies offer charter flights to and from Wroclaw.

Those who would like to see the capital of Poland during their stay in Wroclaw, Wroclaw Copernicus Airport offers direct domestic flights to Warsaw. There are about 4 - 10 flights to Warsaw on a daily basis depending on the day of the week. It is also possible to pop off to the Baltic seashore as one flight to Gdansk on workdays is on offer.

 Getting to and from the airport

Getting to the town centre by taxi costs about PLN 40. It is cheaper, though maybe less convenient, to take No. 406 bus. The ticket costs PLN 2.00. If the dimensions of the luggage exceed 120 cm, you need to get an extra ticket for the luggage (PLN 1.00).

On weekdays the bus goes every 20-30 minutes (from 4.52 in the morning till 10.53 at night), whereas on Sundays and holidays it goes every 40 minutes (from 6.02 a.m. till 10.56 p.m.). The bus goes from the airport to the centre and the journey takes about 20 minutes (depending on the time of day). However, if you want to take a bus from the centre to the airport, the No. 406 bus leaves from a bus stop situated near the Main Railway Station (in Dworcowa Street).

There is also a shuttle bus for Ryanair passengers which departs from the following bus stops in the city centre:
  • Main Railway Station /Dworzec G³ówny PKP/ (between the Main Railway Station and the Main Bus Station): 12.30 a.m.
  • Galeria Dominikanska bus stop (near Olawska Street): 12.35 a.m.
  • Kazimierza Wielkiego Street (near the Swidnickie Underpass): 12.40 a.m.
As for the departure from the airport, the bus departs at 3.20 p.m. (the exact time depends on the Ryanair plane arrival).  A single ticket costs GBP 2,00 or its PLN, Euro or USD equivalent. However, the change is given only in PLN.
