The cathedral with its towers dominating the city’s skyline, was built in the 13th century on the site of the previous sacred monuments. Throughout its turbulent history of fires and invasions, the Cathedral was restored many times. In the 1945 70 per cent of the cathedral was destroyed by the Red Army. The interior is beautifully decorated and contains many chapels. Noteworthy is the main altar, reliefs, the pulpit and huge organs. The cathedral’s tower affords beautiful panorama of the city.
